The brief
A new home set to make the most of long views and the mild climate of its setting in the Marlborough Sounds.
The approach
The design takes camping as its starting point: a simple timber platform forms the ‘ground’ for daily life, and a rubber cladding system above creates a soft, tent-like shelter. The usual house plan is inverted, so the home reads mostly as an exterior, with rooms furnished as ‘islands’ and ‘pockets’ within the tented space.
