This generous Peckham Victorian terrace had become quite tight after the arrival of a fourth child. Our clients needed the loft room to be a large double bedroom suitable for two young children, an extra shower room, while retaining eaves storage. They wanted the room to feel light and airy.

The conversion allowed for a very large bedroom easily able to accommodate two single beds and bedside tables, plenty of shelving for books and toys, and loads of wardrobe space. There is still plenty for free floorspace for the children to play on the beautiful wide-plank timber floor. The thoroughly insulated new roof keeps the room cool in summer and warm in winter, while the cross ventilation and build-in blinds also help massively in temperature regulation. The shower room also has its own skylight, creating a light filled sanctuary with herringbone light tiles. Access to the eaves remains easy providing plenty of long-term storage for this busy family, while extra storage on the landing makes the most of the floor-print. Externally, the flush Equitone cladding and glazing elevate the loft extension which can be seen from Avondale Rise bridge and ties in beautifully with the ground floor extension. Reroofing the outrigger provided an opportunity to raise the ceiling height in that bedroom, creating a much more generous volume.
